Vintage Never Goes Out of Style

Hello My Friends. I am very excited to join My Stampin Blog Friends in a New Strip Card Challenge this week. I decided to go Vintage with my card design. I wanted to use the strips on my card to make subtle accents that added to the Vintage feel. I also love using the Old Envelope fold and how soft and lovely the inside of this card is.

I am so drawn to anything Vintage and I love the definition as well. I turned 52 in June and I have been struggling with how I look and how I feel currently. I have been struggling with feeling broken and old and desire to change how I am talking about myself. Vintage does mean old but also recognized and enduring, having importance…A CLASSIC. I definitely want that to be how I speak about myself. I am continuing to endure and I too have importance. I am a CLASSIC that wants to stop focusing on how I look and instead focus on how I love. God is NOT done with me yet. I have so much love to create and to give.

One of the first thing that comes up with the definition of Vintage is wine. While I don’t really know much about wine, I love bottles and I definitely think they add to the Vintage element. I decided to study how wine is made and felt like it is a great comparison to life. The first step to a good wine is to harvest the grapes to make sure you get only the Best Grapes. We need to harvest the junk out of our lives as well to make sure we are only keeping the Best things in our life. Once you get the right grapes they have to be crushed and then wait in the fermentation process. These are the hardest parts of our lives as well. We all go through the crushing process and then we all have times of waiting as well. I am definitely going through those places in my life as well, as I figure out how to love myself through this chronic illness and work with the resources I currently have. No one loves to be crushed and waiting is so hard, but the results are Vintage Beauty that can be enjoyed by the world around you. The final step is for the wine maker to choose the right bottle to show off the wine. I believe we have that same choice in our lives. We can choose to be bitter or be better every day. I am working on finding places of praise in every aspect of my life so I can spread joy to the world around me. Now I realize that this is a very simplified analogy of wine making and life, but I hope it brings you hope and encouragement no matter what life stage you are in.

I love how this Vintage Strip card turned out and I wanted to share pictures with you of all the supplies I used. I will also give you a list of the name of the supplies with item numbers. That way you can purchase all these fun items to make Vintage Creations of your own.

How do you create this Vintage Magic…I am so glad you asked. I am going to give you a list of measurements that will allow you to create your own Old Envelope cards. They are so fun and so versatile. Add these easy to use ideas and you can make any card Vintage.

  • Card Base 11″ x 4 1/4″ Score at 5″ and top fold 3/4″
  • Front panel is DSP stamped with the flowers from Quiet Meadow then run it through the embossing folder. Cut at 4 1/4″ x 3″
  • Front Card strip 4 1/4″ x 3/4″ distressed. The DSP strip is the same size but then ripped and distressed using the blending brush with Early Espresso
  • The strip inside and outside of the front flap is 4″ x 1/2″ distressed. The DSP strip is the same size but then ripped and distressed using the same method
  • The inside card pieces are also stamped with the flowers and dots and then distressed. The measurements are 4″ x 3″ and 4″ x 2″
  • The inside strips are distressed and measure 4″ x 1 1/2″ and 4″ x 1″. The DSP is the same size but ripped and distressed using the same method
  • I fussy cut the flowers out of the Abigail Rose DSP and then added the jewels
  • The bottle was stamped in Rich Razzleberry using the Stamparatus. That way I could stamp over the same image 3 times to get a deep tone for the bottle and then punched it out and used dimensionals to put it on the front of the card
